My home office has changed a bit over the years, but my mother’s energy and, of course, her heart, remain.
You can usually find me sitting at my mother’s desk. There is so much warmth and history in it, that I choose this spot even if I’m just relaxing. (Read more about her desk here)
The holiday season is an interesting one for me as the song, Santa Baby, written for my mother in 1953 by Phil Springer and Joan Javits, is played frequently in stores, restaurants, malls and on radio and (maybe not so coincidently) Christmas Day 2008 was the day my mother passed from colon cancer. Yes, I miss her terribly, but that feeling is the same throughout the year. It is the irony of her dying on a day during the season when so many people are hearing her voice and mentioning her name, that makes it impossible not to smile and feel her presence a little more intensly, especially as I sit at this desk.
